We don’t really think about our birth, right? It seems ordinary when we think about it. Universal in a not-very-noteworthy way. But what were the peculiarities? What’s the story behind our names? Who was there when we were born? Was there a fox in the room?
With these thoughts in mind – and in collaboration with Brazilian illustrator Carol Cuquetto – this book was created. The plan is to give it to Olivia when she gets older. And hope she appreciates having this knowledge in the future.
Opened in 1831, Dublin Zoo is right in the heart of the city. This illustrated series celebrates the fact that the zoo and its animals have been part of this historic landscape for so long.
These bespoke illustrations were created in collaboration with Brazilian illustrator José Azevedo from Estúdio 1904.

In 2011 I visited the most shocking place I've ever been in my life: Auschwitz, the Nazi concentration camp in Poland. It was a cold day in November and everyone around could feel a heavy atmosphere in the air.
Auschwitz evokes a mix of two distinct feelings: sadness and curiosity. Sadness because of the horrendous facts, of course. Curiosity because you start looking for explanations, and the same question keeps lingering in your head all the time... Why? Why? The answers never come.
Auschwitz is a place to be forgotten, but that will be forever remembered. I try here to show a bit of what I saw - and felt - that day.
